THE HOW AND WHY OF

ORAL SLEEP APPLIANCES

About Oral Sleep Appliances

Unique patients, unique treatment

There are more than 100 different appliances that are FDA cleared for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea.

Which appliance we use depends on several factors;

1.    The shape of your mouth

2.    The condition of your teeth

3.    The condition of your TMJ

4.    Limitations placed by Insurance and Medicare

That’s why we perform a thorough examination, which might include x-rays and sometimes, even an MRI. Sometimes, we want to see under tissue and actually visualize the bone and cartilage in the jaws. All of this is to insure that the appliance we recommend for you will give you the best experience, the best result with the least amount of side-effects.

Insurance and particularly Medicare dictate the use of specific appliances. Through the lobbying efforts of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, of which we are a member, the number of approved appliances has increased. But there are still limitations.

Our main concern is getting you the sleep you deserve with the most comfortable, effective appliance possible.
